Take a breath in. Close all the 50 other tabs at the top of your screen and the other 50 mental tabs you have open in your head.

It is time to shift your efforts into something that will grow your business, and not just your social media following.

I'm going to let you in on a not so secret 'marketing truth' that career marketers have known since the beginning of time - that you undoubtedly know too, but possibly need reminding of.

Imagine your business is an actual bricks and mortar shop (for some of you this won't be that hard).

If you look outside there are lots of people walking up and down the high street and they see your shop. If you have something that they like in the window, they then come inside to buy it. If it is a low effort decision, like buying a take away coffee, they don't even need to come into the store. They are happy just buying through a window, only for their delicious cup of coffee to be carefully prepared and given to them so they can continue shopping in the market.

For other items that mean more or have a higher price point, they would be more comfortable coming into the shop, touching the item, speaking to you, the business owner. Maybe they even need to go away and consider it, look at other options, only to return the following day to walk back into your store, put it in their basket and make the purchase.

Your Online Business is that store - and the High street is Social Media.

When you are on social media marketing your business, it is just as if you are making a window display for your business. You still need your customers to come into the store, or pop their head in the window to make the purchase. So funnelling some of your effort away from socials to take care of your website (your virtual shop front) is super important.

Once clients are inside your website, make sure you have the information that they need to move towards the checkout. Give them the information they need in the form of FAQ's and Blog Posts. Give them the information and experience needed to virtually touch the product or try it on through brand professional quality images, videos, service/product descriptions and testimonials that allow new visitors to 'experience' the service or product up-close.

Bottom line is put your effort into activities that get them off the High Street or avenue into your store, where they are able to progress with comfort to the check-out. From there they can experience your service or product and become advocates for your business.... but that is all for a future blog post.
